American English and British English
Nowadays, English is the most famous and widely known language in the world. Several countries have adopted English as a first language. In each country, English has been changed and developed to fit into each culture. As a result, there are a lot of dialects or varieties of English in the world, such as American English (AmE), British English (BrE), Australian English, Canadian English and Southeast Asian English. Among them, especially, AmE and BrE have the biggest influence in the world. AmE and BrE have been developed in the each country for 200 years, so they have differences in pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and idiom.
AmE and BrE have partial differences in pronunciation. Generally, we can feel difference of ‘a’ pronunciation between two countries. For example, ‘ask’ is pronounced [æsk] in America, but in Great Britain it is pronounced [a:sk].
