Abstract
In this experiment, we foucsed on the synthesis of porphyrin and metalation of it. On day 1, we focused on synthesizing porphyrin, understanding its features. On day 2, we metalated porphyrin synthesized on day1. Afterwards, we performed various spectroscopic measurements, such as NMR or UV-vis to understand the features of macrocyclic compounds.
Introduction
The major content of this experiment is about porphyrin. What is porphyrin? Porphyrin is a macrocyclic molecule that consists of four pyrrole rings (See Figure S1). Porphyrin is aromatic and it contains 22 π electrons, 18 of them participating in conjugation. Porphyrin, at the center, has 4 nitrogen atoms, which can coordinate a metal ion.
