Karma is the belief that one’s actions or motives determine the consequences in the future. The plot begins when Harlan Thrombey, a best-selling mystery writer, is found dead the day after the night of his birthday party. Benoit Blanc, a private detective who was hired to solve the case by an anonymous letter, finds out that Marta, Harlan’s caretaker but also his close friend with immigrant background, was involved with Harlan’s suicide. Marta had given a fatal dosage of morphine to Harlan instead of the correct medication, and realizes that under the circumstances, the greatly successful writer would inevitably die. The successful writer who deeply cared about the young woman feared that the investigation of his death might reveal her mother’s the truth illegal immigration, so he instructed her how to create an alibi for his own suicide. However, the Detective finds out that the true cause of this strange death was Harlan’s Grandson Ransom who switched the contents of the medicine bottle to make it seem as if Marta had intentionally killed Harlan.
