본문내용
An essential aspect of any discussion on media and culture is the idea of popular culture. Culture refers to the shared attitudes, values, practices, and beliefs of a given social group. Popular culture, on the other hand, refers to the media products and attitudes viewed as part of the conventional culture and everyday life. American Idolis an example of popular culture. The media plays a massive role in influencing the behavior, attitudes, and perception of individuals. Given this considerable influence, the media has a huge impact on trends in society, which eventually ends up as popular culture. For instance, a consistent association of color pink with girls created a popular culture where society does not expect boys to wear pink clothes.
I agree with Lev Manovich that the rise of social media has caused the transition from mass consumption to mass cultural productions. In this twenty-first century, users tend to watch things generated by others instead of relying on those from professional producers.
