han-gul
han-gul is the name of the Korean alphabet and consists of twenty four letters. Of these twenty-four letters, fourteen are consonants, and ten are vowels.
However, in actuality, it is possible to have up to a tatal of forty letters because some of the consonants and vowel can combine to form phonemes.
han-gul was invented by King Sejong and his sholars in 1443 so that Koreans, from all the different regions and classes, could be able to communicate with each other by writing in their own language.
Before the advent of han-gul, Korean people used Chinese characters to convey their thoughts in writing.
