There are many films and novels that purvey messages of death, and Don DeLillo has made the theme of death as a central theme of his novel, White Noise. Considering all the characters in White Noise, nobody seems to be safe from the fear of death. At the midpoint of this novel, characters eventually witness that their previous obsession turns into a real threat caused by the airborne toxic event. The fear discussed so deeply in this novel is no longer a false fear which might be alleviated by counseling. Interestingly, Jack Gladney, the main character of White Noise, is a scholar in Hitler Studies. As Adolf Hitler is a symbol of devastation caused by massacre in the twentieth century, Jack’s profession might be deeply associated with the theme of death in this novel. This essay will revolve around how Hitler plays a major role in the relationship of human being and death in White Noise.
