i) Discussion
Overall, the reaction rate constant k of both batch reactor and CSTR has been calculated.
Rate constant had big differences.
It varies with temperature a lot, so the values should be different since the batch reactor experiment and CSTR experiment has been done in different temperature situations.
However, even with consideration of the temperature, there are too large errors.
This big errors are caused mainly because of many assumptions in each experiments and limitation of old apparatus.
Also, the temperature was not kept ideal – in real experiment the temperature has shrink. (Rate constant varies with temperature a lot, which means shrinking in temperature makes the result to have less reliability.
In specifically batch reactor, the equation to calculate terms satisfied when the temperature is over 294K, again which was not the case(288K).
In the case of CSTR, it was actually not a CSTR condition. Originally CSTR has input flow and output flow at the same rate so that the reaction could occur continuously.
