Introduction
Animal testing has been a controversial issue since it first came to light during the 19th century. According to Animal Use and Abuse Statistics, more than 25 million vertebrate animals are used annually, and the number of invertebrates may extend to billions in United States (Ernst).
Despite the fact that invertebrates from a large portion of the animals on which experiments are conducted, they are not included in statistics.
The common practice is to euthanize an animal after it has been used in experimentation.
Animal testing is conducted in a wide variety of places including universities, medical schools, pharmaceutical companies, farms and even defense establishments.
The research may pertain to pure sciences such as genetics, and behavioral studies, to applied science such as biomedical research, drug testing and toxicology tests.
Apparently history has shown that animal testing could save more human lives, however the truth is far from the obvious. Animal testing is an unethical act that promotes animal cruelty
