Pest, Present, and Future of iPhone in Japan
Since June 29, 2007 when the first iPhone was introduced by Apple in the United States, seven different models of iPhone have been released every year except 2008. Despite the death of Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple, in 2011, iPhone has firmly remained all around the world and new iPhone 6 is ready to be launched at the end of this year. IPhone has received widespread support but, in recent years, Apple and Samsung have been neck-and-neck in the world smartphone market. Nevertheless, there is one country where iPhone dominates the whole market. It is not the United States but Japan.
In July 2008, Apple launched iPhone 3G as its first iPhone in Japan through SoftBank's mobile network, the third biggest Japanese carrier following NTT DoCoMo and KDDI. Since then, for three years, SoftBank exclusively sold Apple’s products such as iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 (Duwell).
