Satire of Power Structures and Sexual Discrimination in “The Handmaid’s Tale”,
“Gulliver’s Travels” and “Pride and Prejudice”
Satire literature exists not to speak of the era or the region. Some of the works have
something in common and others might have points of difference. Sometimes, a satire work that
has been written long time ago seems to be well understood by the people in modern society to
some degree. I would like to compare and contrast satire in “The Handmaid’s Tale”, “Gulliver’s
Travels” and “Pride and Prejudice” which were published at all different period. Then, I will
also analyze how those 3 Satire works can be understood by people in Korean modern
society.
To briefly introduce, The Handmaid’s Tale was published in 20c and it satirizes usually
about sex and power. The Gulliver’s Travels which was published in 18c satirizes about English
society and human features. Pride and Prejudice was pub
