1) 지능에 대한 개념● 지능의 개념은 학문적 입장에 따라, 시대에 따라, 사회와 문화에 따라 서로 다르게 정의되어 왔다고 말할 수 있다.
● 가장 널리 인용되어 왔던 지능에 대한 정의로서 터먼(Terman)의 정의를 들 수 있다. : “사람의 지능은 추상적 사고를 수행할 수 있는 능력에 따라 달라진다.“
→지능을 추상적인 문제해결 능력으로 보는 터먼의 견해는 서구의 심리학자들의 견해 중에서도 우위를 차지하고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 그 견해에 반대하는 사람들도 많다. 수많은 심리학자들이 여러 가지 방법을 이용하여 지능이 추상적 사고능력 이상의 것이라는 주장을 해왔다. 이러한 연구자들에게 있어서 지능은 사람들에게 도구를 능숙하게 사용할 수 있게 해줄 뿐만 아니라 항해에서 노래하는 것에 이르기까지 광범위하고 다양한 업무를 수행할 수 있게 해주는 능력이다.
