초록

서일은 종교가, 저술가, 철학가, 독립운동가 등으로 알려져 있다. 독립운동가로서 그는 북로군정서 총재로 1920년 독립전쟁의 중심에 있던 인물이다. 하지만, 독립운동가 서일의 행적과 역할은 아직까지 충분하게 규명되지 못하였다.
이글은 독립운동가 서일에 초점을 맞추어, 그가 채택하고 실행한 독립운동의 전략과 전술을 분석하고, 그 전략과 전술이 실행되고 실패하는 과정을 살펴보았다. 아울러 그간 논쟁이 되어온 그의 대종교 입교 시기, 중광단 설립 시기, 스승 김노규에 대한 이해, 자유시로의 이동 여부에 대해 새로운 해석을 시도하였다.

영어초록

Seo Il is known as a religion, writer, philosopher, and independence activist. As an independence activist, he was at the center of the 1920 Independence war with the role of President Buklogunjeongseo(North Road Military Government). However, the activities and roles of independence activist Seo Il have not yet been sufficiently identified.
This article focused on independence activist Seo Il, analyzing the strategies and tactics of the independence movement he adopted and implemented, and looked at the process of implementing and failing those strategies and tactics. In addition, he tried to interpret his controversial time of entering the Daejonggyo, establishing the Junggwangdan, understanding of his teacher Kim No-gyu, and whether he moved to Alekseyevsk.
