'옹녀'의 상부살풀이 과정으로 본 <변강쇠가> 연구 (study on a song which exorcise Ong-nyeo's 'the evil influence bringing about widowhood'.)

초록

이 글은 <변강쇠가>에 ‘옹녀’를 서사의 주체로 보고, 옹녀에게 절박한 삶의 문제인 상부살을 어떻게 풀어내고 있는가를 밝히고자 했다.
옹녀의 상부살을 바라보는 두 가지 시선인 두려움과 성적욕망은 <변강쇠가>의 전체 서사를 견인하고 있다. 이는 옹녀를 둘러싼 타나토스의 극단적인 형태가 바로 ‘상부살’로 상징화 되어 있음을 알게 한다. ‘상부살’이라는 상징적 폭력은 매력적인 여성이 스스로 죄책감을 느끼게 하는 남성의 관념적 폭력일 수 있다. <변강쇠가>는 이런 폭력적인 시각의 규정에서 벗어나 어떻게 자유로운 관계를 형성할 수 있을까 하는 문제 상황을 보게 하고, 옹녀의 상부살풀이의 과정을 통해 운명의 틀에서 벗어나고자하는 서사에 동참하게 한다.
옹녀가 끊임없이 개가를 하는 것이 표면적으로는 욕망을 채워가는 과정으로 보이지만, 이면적으로는 자신의 상부살을 상쇄할 사람을 만나고 싶은 간절함이 있다. 넘치는 성에너지만큼 자신의 삶에 대한 강한 생명력이 자살이나 수절이 아닌 ‘개가’로 끊임없이 이어지게 하는 것이며, 옹녀는 자신의 운명을 거슬러 진정으로 ‘상부살’이 없는 여인으로 살아가고자 남편 찾기를 하는 것이다.
옹녀는 변강쇠를 만나 자신의 상부살이 없어지길 기대하나, 변강쇠의 죽음으로 옹녀는 새로운 상부살에 직면한다. 변강쇠는 죽음의 순간까지 옹녀에게 집착하며 옹녀의 상부살이 자신의 죽음 이후에 자신 이외의 다른 남자와 관계를 갖지 못하게 되는 족쇄가 되길 바란다. 변강쇠의 죽음은 ‘상부살’을 통해 죽음 이후에도 옹녀와 부부의 인연을 지속하고자 했던 욕망과 집착이 만들어낸 형상임을 보여준다. 변강쇠의 죽음으로 처음엔 자신의 팔자를 탓했던 옹녀가 기나긴 치상을 통해 변강쇠의 삶의 방식을 생각하며 ‘죽음’의 죄책감을 벗어날 수 있게 된다. 시신갈이는 상부살의 그림자를 지우는 상징적 행동으로 보았다. 마지막에 옹녀가 뎁득이에게 기대지 않고, 홀로 떠날 수 있었던 힘은 자신의 운명을 지배했던 상부살의 고갯마루를 넘어선 것으로 이해할 수 있다.

영어초록

This manuscript regards 'Ong-nyeo' as a main agent of a <Byeongangsoe> song's epic and try to find out how Ong-nyeo exorcise 'the evil influence bringing about widowhood' which the most urgent matter of life to her.
The dread and eroticism which is two views of the Ong-nyeo's 'the evil influence bringing about widowhood' is leading the whole epic of a <Byeongangsoe> song. That means that a very extreme form of the thanatos surrounding Ong-nyeo has been found to be symbolized in 'the evil influence bringing about widowhood'. The symbolic violence called 'the evil influence bringing about widowhood' may be men's ideological violence that attractive women to feel guilty about their own.
On the surface, Ong-nyeo's continuous remarriage seems to be satisfy her desire, but inside she want to find a person who can counterbalance her 'the evil influence bringing about widowhood'. Her strong vitality for her life can lead to continuous 'remarriage' not suicide or faithfulness, and she is hunting husband to survive as a woman without 'the evil influence bringing about widowhood' to resist her own fate.
Ong-nyeo want to remove her 'the evil influence bringing about widowhood' from Byeongangsoe, but she is faced with new situations due to the death of Byeongangsoe. The death of Byeongangsoe is shape which desire and obsession has created to continue the conjugal ties even after his death with Ong-nyeo. Ong-nyeo blamed her fate at first, but she is able to escape from guilt of 'the death' through the process which take charge of funeral rites. The corpse-replacement is symbolic acts which removed 'the evil influence bringing about widowhood'. In the final part of the story, Ong-nyeo could leave alone not to depend upon 'Dep-deuk', because she overcome her fate 'the evil influence bringing about widowhood'.
