초록

서구 미술의 경우, 종교 혹은 신화 등이 예술적 주제가 되었던 근대 이전의 시기에 예술은 일부 권력 및 지배 계급의 후원을 받아 발전되었기 때문에 창작자의 자율성은 극도로 제한되었다. 현대 미술에서 주제 및 재료의 활용은 다양해졌으며, 그레이슨 페리처럼 작가가 작품의 주제나 소재로 등장하는 것 역시 가능해졌다. 즉, 작가의 개인적이고 사소한 자전적 이야기가 작품의 주제가 되었다. 이는 작가의 성장 배경과 경험이 작가의 작품 세계를 이해할 수 있는 배경지식이 되기도 하지만, 작가 스스로의 삶이 회화적 주제이자, 작가 스스로가 살아 있는 작품이 되기도 한다.
현대 예술 영역에서 작가가 자신의 자전적 내러티브를 대중에게 공개하는 것은 어떤 심리에서 비롯된 것일까?
자전적 내러티브를 작품화하는 작가들의 등장은 현대 사회의 큰 특징 중 하나이다. 본 논문은 ‘엿보기’심리를 통한 대중의 관심과 재구성된 내러티브의 예술적 승화로 작가 자신의 트라우마 치유에 대해 주목하였다. 트라우마 치유는 페미니스트 작가들로 대표되는 루이스 부르주아, 트레시 에민 등 많은 여성 작가들의 표현 방식에서도 언급되는 주제이다. 그러나 본 논문에서는 이러한 여성 작가들과 다른 방식으로 예술 세계를 펼치고 있는 그레이슨 페리의 작품 세계에 주목한다. 특히 연구자는 그레이슨 페리의 독특한 상징의 대입과 드로잉 서사를 고찰하고, 그의 작업에서 발견될 수 있는 현대 미술사적 가치를 비평하며, 2017년에 영국의 런던 서펀타인 갤러리(Serpentine Gallery)에서 개최된 개인전, <The most popular art Exhibition ever>의 드로잉을 중심으로 살펴보았다.
특히 자신의 트라우마적 경험이 드로잉의 표현 방식과 어떻게 접목될 수 있으며, 내적 치유를 위해 이 예술적 방식이 어떠한 효과를 자아내는지 살펴보고자 한다. 즉, 개인에게 적용되는 심리적 상처가 예술 창조의 근원이 되며, 사적 내러티브가 어떻게 예술적으로 표현될 수 있는 지에 대해 주디스 허먼의 트라우마 이론을 적용한다.

In the case of Western art, in the pre-modern era when religion or mythology became an artistic theme, art was developed under the auspices of some power and ruling classes, so the autonomy of creators was extremely limited. The use of themes and materials in modern art has diversified, and it is also possible for an artist to appear as a subject or a material, such as Grayson Perry. In other words, the author's personal and minor autobiographical story has become a topic of art. Although the growth and personal experience of the artist are background to understanding the one's world, the artist's own life is a pictorial theme and becaming living work oneself.
What is the psychology of the artist to open one's autobiographical narratives to the public in the field of modern art?
One of the great features of modern society is the emergence of artists who work on autobiographical narratives. This paper focuses on the healing of the artist's own trauma through the 'look' mentality and the restructured narratives' artistic triumphs. Trauma healing is the way of saying that many female artists, such as Louise Bourgeois and Tracy Emin, have represented in the subject. However, in this paper, I am focusing on the drawing of Grayson Perry, which has a different way of spreading the art world than these women ones. In particular, I have reviewed the artistic expression and the narrative of the unique symbol of Grayson Perry's drawing, criticized the value of contemporary art history that could be found in his works. I have focused on the drawing of <The most popular art exhibition ever> that is his solo exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery in London 2017.
I am going to examine how traumatic experience can be combined with the wxpression of drawing and this artistic approach works to improve his internal healing. That is, the psychological scars of an individual become the source of art creation and I am going to apply Judith Herman's trauma theory to how these historical narratives can be expressed artfully.
