공감각 예술표현의 미학적 가치 - 음악의 시각적 표현을 중심으로 (A Study on Aesthetic Value of Synesthetic Expression in Arts : Focusing on Visual Expression of Music)

초록

본 연구에서는 독창적이고 혁신적인 예술표현방식인 공감각을 통한 예술가들의 표현방법을 통해 시각과 청각 등의 공감각적 표현과 탈장르적 예술형태를 통해 새로운 예술 표현의 확장 가능성과 미적 가치를 알아본다. 마셜 매클루언의 매체이론을 보면 기존의 미디어가 특정한 감각을 확대하거나 강조시켰다면 매체발달을 통한 새로운 미디어의 등장은 인간의 감각이 상호의존성을 가지고 새로운 감각 균형을 요구하는 것을 알 수 있다.
청각과 시각의 감각전이는 예술가들의 음악의 시각화를 통해 실제로 경험하게 되었고, 매체 발달에 따라 표현 방법은 다양해졌다. 이러한 공감각적 현상은 기호와 색으로의 표현과 함께 20세기 후반 매체와 융합을 통해 표현되고 있다. 그들의 작품은 음악의 청각뿐만 아니라 시각과 촉각 등 인간의 감각을 서로 요하며 공감각적 감각의 전이를 일으켰음을 알 수 있다. 이에 공감각 현상은 인터렉티브 개념으로 관객과 쌍방향적 작용을 통해 작품의 의미를 생산해가며, 새로운 예술의 미적 관습을 만들어낸다. 장르간의 경계, 재료의 일상성에서 벗어나 탈장르, 탈중심의 방식들로 독창적 창작방식을 제공하고 있다. 공감각은 개인의 표현을 확대시키고, 끊임없이 발전하는 매체를 활용하여 창의적이고 독창적인 예술 표현의 방법을 가능성을 볼 수 있으며, 그 독창성을 가질 수 있다.

영어초록

This study aimed to investigate the aesthetic value of synesthetic expression, such as visual and auditory values, through synesthesia, a creative and innovative method of art expression , and the possibility of an extension of artistic expression using cross-genre art. The existing media, according to media theory proposed by Marshall Mcluhan, enlarges or highlights a specific sense while the emergence of a new media, fueled by the development of media, indicates that the human senses have interdependence and require novel sensual balance.
The transference of visual and auditory senses was actually experienced through musical visualization by artists, and the expression method became more diverse with the development of media. These synesthetic expressions are not only expressed using symbols and colors but also became varied through convergence with media in the late 20th century. The works created using synesthesia require human senses, such as visual and tactile senses (as well as the auditory sense of music), and allow for the transference of synesthetic senses. The synesthetic expression is, accordingly, an interactive concept in which the meaning of works is produced through two-way action with the audience while a new aesthetic artistic custom is made. An innovative method of creation is provided in post-medium, decentration, and plural ways, away from the border between genres and the commonness of materials. The synesthesia expands the boundary of individual expression and opens a creative and innovative artistic expression using media; thus, it achieves its ingenuity.
