In dance, senses are important factors in the formation of unique body images. Therefore, to enhance the diversity and quality of dance education, multifaceted research on the senses should be conducted. The purpose of this study is to exam- ine the synesthetic images in Debussy's music and to find embodied values that are components of body images.
This research examined at Debussy's works from the perspective of the Bodi- ness, which is the perception of objects through vision (body perception), the gen- eration of imagination through sensory experience, the exercise of creativity to express momentary feelings, and the auralization of vision through artistic em- bodiment.
The research revealed that Debussy expressed imagery using 'descriptive, metaphorical, symbolic, and dynamic methods', representing synesthetic images not through direct imitation but through 'metaphors, implications, and symbol- ism'. Through these methods he ‘transformed the senses into metaphysical arts’.
This study concludes that these processes were acquired through the individual experiences and summarizes their embodied values as 'sensory experience' and 'expansion of expression'.
By looking at the synaesthetic images of Debussy's music from the perspec- tive of the Bodiness, this study suggests the possibility of a new direction for the senses needed in dance education. It is expected that this study will help to im- prove the quality of dance education through various sensory experiences, sensory transference, and creative body image creation.
