초록

요한 슈타미츠의 교향곡은 미뉴에트를 세 번째 악장으로 취하는 4악장 구조 안에서 음악적 성격의 다양성, 악장 간의 균형, 개별 악장의 기능 충족을 이루어냈다. 세부적인 형식적, 구성적 짜임새에 있어서는 독자성 짙은 단락들의 외적, 내적 대비 및 수평적, 수직적 결합을 통해 극적 긴장감을 놓지 않는다. 그리고 그러한 극적 긴장감은 일정한 전개 유형과 형식적 구조(‘제시부’-‘전개부’-‘발전부’)를 밑바탕에 둔다. 특정 단락의 조직적 배치 역시 음악의 구조성에 힘을 싣는다. 그 밖에도 2마디의 악구를 근간으로 하는 규칙적 박절의 단락들이 악곡 전체를 관통하면서 안정감과 균형감을 부여한다. 이러한 구조성과 구성력에도 불구하고 슈타미츠의 교향곡은 소나타 형식과 같은 도식화를 허락하지 않는다. 전개의 연속성이나 긴밀함보다는 전체의 균형 안에서 다채로운 성격과 뉘앙스, 표현을 지향한 음악이었기 때문이다. 결론적으로 슈타미츠는 오페라 신포니아나 연주회 신포니아와 같은 새로운 오케스트라 음악에서 이탈리아의 작곡가들이 보여준 가능성들을 한층 더 발전된 구조성과 당면한 시대의 미학을 보태어 완성시켰다. 그리하여 연주회 교향곡이라는 장르가 첫 절정에 이르는 슈타미츠의 작품들에는 기존의 것과 현재의 것, 미래의 것이 공존한다.

영어초록

The symphonies of Johann Stamitz achieved variety of musical char- acteristics, balance between movements, and satisfaction of the function of individual movement within the four movements structure taking a minuet as the third movement. In terms of detailed formal and constitutive structure, they maintain dramatic tension through external and internal contrast, horizontal and vertical combination of musical sections with strong identity. In addition, such a dramatic tension is based on certain types of development and formal structure. Systematic arrangement of certain section also gives strength to the structure of music. Besides, sections with regular beats based on motives with two bars gives stability and balance throughout the whole music. Nevertheless, Stamitz's symphonies do not allow schematization of forms unlike sonata form. It pursues various char- acteristics, nuance, and expression within the whole balance rather than the continuity or closeness of the development. Finally, Stamitz completed the symphony by adding the aesthetics of the present time and more developed structure than Italian composers' composing and linguistic possibilities that are shown in opera sinfonia. In conclusion, the past, present, and future coexist in Stamitz's symphony.
