초록

Like many modernists, Eliot also displays his duality, when encountering the overpowering force of science. On the one hand, as he practices an Imagistic style, he brings scientific realism together. He appreciates scientific objectivity as showing a possibility of a certain link to his impersonality. Furthermore, in an attempt to construct the realistic scenes of his poems and refine his language, Eliot employs the analytic method of science. On the other hand, he disproves the overreach of science towards other fields like social sciences and humanities. Eliot believes that science, even if it is very efficiently operative in its own restricted domain, is insufficient for attaining the most profound truth due to its lack of universal intelligence. Moreover, scientific objectivity partially acquires neutrality, but it can congeal reality like behavorism, if it particularly leans toward conditional organization. In contrast, artistic contemplation achieves complete detachment from disturbed relations and revitalizes the barren realities.
