謙齋 趙泰億의 시세계 일고찰 - 門外黜送 時期 詩作을 중심으로 - (A Study on the Poetry of Gyeomjae Jotaeeok - Focusing on a Poem Written by the Time of Deportation -)

초록

謙齋 趙泰億(1675∼1728)은 조선후기 소론 계열을 대표하는 관료이자 문인이다. 그의 생애 54년 동안 그는 좌의정과 우의정을 역임하고 소론 5대신에 들 만큼 정국에 중심에 있는 인물이다. 이런 그가 1712년 사행 직후, 1725년 을사환국 이후 총 2차례 門外黜送이라는 형벌을 받았는데, 조태억의 두 문외출송 모두 그에게는 심적으로 상당히 힘든 시기였으며 이렇게 비슷한 환경 속에서 느끼는 울적함을 조태억은 시에서 상반된 태도로 표출했다. 첫 번째 문외출송 시기 시들에서는 자신이 처한 부정적인 환경을 낙관적으로 바라보고 이겨내려는 의지가 드러났지만 이에 반해 두 번째 문외출송 시기 시들에서는 벗과의 이별을 깊게 안타까워하거나 자신의 처지를 비관적으로 바라보며 자신의 본심을 고백하고 있는 모습이 나타난다. 두 시기의 시의 대응 방식이 다른 이유는 ‘정치적 시련으로 인한 좌절의 심화’라고 볼 수 있다. 더 나아가 조태억의 두 문외출송 시기 시를 비교함으로써 문학의 창작목적 2가지를 확인할 수 있다. 하나는 ‘현실에서는 이루지 못하는 꿈을 이루고자 함’이고 두 번째는 ‘문학을 통해 감정을 고백하고자 한다는 것’이다. 조태억의 이 두 시기의 시를 비교하여 살펴봄으로써 통해서 문학 창작목적의 확인과 정치적 시련이 개인의 시세계가 변화되는 구체적인 형상을 파악할 수 있다.

영어초록

Gyeomjae Jotaeeok ((1675∼1728)) was a bureaucrat and literary figure, representing the Soron family in the late Joseon Dynasty. For 54 years of his life, he was at the center of the political situation, leading as the first and the second vice-premier in succession, and assuming the position of the “Soron five representative bureaucrat”. Shortly after his telecommunications activities in 1712, he was sentenced to deportation twice after the “Eulsahwanguk (乙巳換局)” in 1725, both of which were considerably difficult times for him, and expressed his depression in such a similar environment. The poems of the first deportation period showed a willingness to look optimistically at the negative environment and overcome it. However, the poems of the second deportation period, mainly showed deep sorrow for the separation from friends and relatives or confess true feelings. The reason Jotaeeok's response patterns in his poetry are different in the two periods can be assessed as 'deepening frustration due to political trials'. Additionally, if the poetry of the two deportation periods of Jotaeeok are compared, the creation of literature can be confirmed. One, is to achieve dreams that cannot be achieved in reality, and the second, is to confess emotions through literature. By examining the comparison of poems between these two periods of Jotaeeok, it is possible to identify the specific shape in which the purpose of literary creation and political trials change the individual's poetry world.
