초록

이 글에서는 국제관계의 역사사회학을 되돌려 제1공화국에서 제3공화국에 걸친 한국 국가의 역사적 변형을 한미관계를 중심으로 추적한다. 구성주의 국제관계이론과 국제관계의 역사사회학을 소개한 후 한미관계변화와 한국 국가정체성 변형과정을 역사사회학적으로 살펴보고자 한다. 한국 국가를 국제관계-국가-사회라는 중층적 공간에 위치시켜 한국의 국가정체성이 바뀌는 역동적 과정을 분석하고 있다. 미국의 대한정책이 봉쇄에서 발전으로 변하고, 남북한관계가 적대에서 경쟁으로 바뀜에 따라 한국 한국의 국가 정체성도 변모했다.
이승만 정권은 미국의 분단체제 안정정책에 맞서 ‘냉전통일국가’를 지향하며 “북진통일”을 국가 프로젝트로 추진했다. 장면 정권은 “경제제일주의”를 국가프로젝트로 추진하며 ‘분단발전국가’를 지향했다. 박정희 정권은 “조국 근대화”를 국가 프로젝트로 추진하며 ‘분단발전국가’로 전환하는 데 성공했다.

영어초록

By “Bringing International Relations Back In!” this article explores the historical transformation of South Korean State from 1st Republic to 3rd Republic centered on the ROK-U. S. relations. After introducing constructivism in IR theory and historical sociology of IR, this article examines the change in the ROK-U. S. relations and the transformation of South Korean State identity in historical sociological perspective.
Situating South Korean State in multi-layed spaces of international relations- state-society, this article traces the dynamic sequences of changing state identities of South Korea. As the U. S. policy toward South Korea changed from containment to development and S. K.-N. K relations changed from enemy to rival, the state identities of South Korea changed, too.
Syngman Rhee regime, challenging the U. S. policy of stabilizing division system in Korean peninsula, pursued ‘the Cold War-Unification State’ by launching “March North” as a state project. Myon Chang regime began “Economy first” as state project and sought ‘the Division-Developmental State’ as state identity. However, it is Chung Hee Park regime that succeeded in transforming the state identity of South Korea to ‘the Division-Developmental State’ by initiating “the modernization project of South Korea.”
