무령왕릉에 대한 일본학계의 연구동향 - 한국학계의 연구성과와 비교를 중심으로 - (A Study on the Japanese Academics of the King Muryeong’s Tomb -Focusing on comparison with research achievements of Korean Academics-)

초록

1971년 무령왕릉의 발견 이후, 일본학계에서는 다른 어떤 유적보다 장기간에 걸쳐, 다양한 주제에 대한 연구가 진행되어 왔다. 그 주제는 묘제, 출토유물, 그리고 거기에 담긴 사상에 이르기까지 다양하다. 무령왕릉 출토품과 중국의 관련 자료의 비교·검토를 한 초기 연구는 한국학계에 많은 영향을 미쳤다. 그러나 초기 연구는 중국의 영향이라는 기본 프레임 속에서 백제 고유의 문화를 소극적으로 바라보았다. 최근 들어 그동안 진척된 한국학계의 연구성과를 토대로 무령왕릉 출토품과 일본 내 관련 유물들을 개별적으로 비교·검토하는 작업이 계속 이어지고 있다. 무령왕릉과 출토품은 일본열도에 있는 관련 고고학자료의 기원 및 연대와 계통을 파악하는데 기준이 되고 있다고 할 수 있다. 이러한 연구동향은 고대 동아시아 세계 속에서 무령왕릉과 그 문물의 史的 위치를 인정하는 것으로 귀결될 수 있다.
한편에서는 백제의 독자적 문화가 있다면 일본 고유의 문화 또한 인정해야 한다는 의식이 짙게 깔려 있다. 무령왕릉 출토유물과 비슷하면서도 다른 점이 분명히 보이기 때문에 일본 고대문화의 다양성은 인정할 수밖에 없다. 하지만 그 다양성을 어떻게 해석하느냐에 따라 연구결과는 전혀 다르게 나온다. 한국학계에서도 무령왕릉 출토유물과 관련된 왜국 내 유물의 다양성을 백제문화의 영향이라는 전제 속에서 시·공간적 차이로 이해할 수만은 없을 듯하다. 새로운 유물의 발견과 함께 제작기법 및 문양 비교연구는 당연히 중요하지만, 현재로서는 각 유물에 대한 과학적 접근이 무엇보다 시급하다고 할 수 있다.

영어초록

After the discovery of the King Muryeong’s Tomb in 1971, the Japanese academic community has been conducting research through various methodologies for a longer period of time than any other remains. The themes range from Grave System, Excavated relics, and Thought contained therein. Early research that compared and reviewed the artifacts excavated from the King Muryeong’s Tomb and related materials from China had a great influence on Korean academic circles. However, early research passively looked at Baekje’s unique culture within the basic frame of Chinese influence. In recent years, the work of comparing and reviewing the artifacts excavated from the King Muryeong’s Tomb and related relics in Japan has been continued based on the research achievements of the Korean academic community. Until now, Japanese academic circles have been focusing on the King Muryeong’s Tomb and excavated objects to determine the origin and date of related archaeological data on the Japanese Islands. This research trend can be concluded by acknowledging the important position of the tomb of King Muryeong and its culture in the world of ancient East Asia.
Meanwhile, if there is Baekje’s own culture, there is a deep awareness that Japan’s own culture should also be recognized. The diversity of Japanese ancient culture cannot but do acknowledged because it is similar to the relics excavated from the King Muryeong’s Tomb, but the differences are clearly visible. However, depending on how one interprets the diversity, the research results come out completely different. Even in Korean academic circles, it seems impossible to understand the diversity of relics in Japan related to the relics excavated from the King Muryeong’s Tomb as a temporal and spatial difference under the premise of the influence of Baekje culture. It is of course important to study the production technique and pattern comparison along with the discovery of new artifacts, but at present, it can be said that a scientific approach to each artifact is more urgent than anything else.
