초록

본 연구는 유일한 가톨릭계 비영리모금조직으로서 “바보의 나눔 재단”의 역할과 사회적 성과를 분석하고 앞으로의 조직운영의 방향성을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이러한 연구목적을 달성하기 위해 비영리 지역사회 모금조직의 일반적인 역할을 기반하여 재단의 특성과 사회적 성과에 대해 분석하였다. 고 김수환 추기경의 사목방침에 따라 설립된 “바보의 나눔 재단”은 가톨릭이라는 종교적 특성을 지니고 있지만, 공공의 목적을 달성하려는 비영리 조직으로서 전체 사회에 기여하겠다는 점을 명시적으로 제시하고 있다. 지역사회 모금조직으로서 모금과 배분에 있어서 지난 3년 동안 뛰어난 성과를 달성해왔지만, 그 과정에서 가톨릭이라는 종교적 특성이 강하게 드러나고 있기도 하다. 공익을 달성하는 비영리 전문모금기관으로서 성장하기 위해서는 이러한 종교적 특성을 어떻게 극복할 것인가는 매우 중요한 과제이다. 또한 단순히 재정적 매개체로서의 역할뿐만 아니라, 경제적 규제자 또는 지역사회 문제해결자로서의 역할을 수행할 필요가 있다. 본 연구는 바보의 나눔 재단에 대한 사례분석으로 연구결과의 일반화에는 한계를 지니고 있으며, 이후 보다 심층적인 분석이 필요하다.

영어초록

This study intended to evaluate the performance of the Babonanum Foundation, the only Catholic-based community funding intermediary in Korea. Babonanum was established to spread the Catholic principle, Pro vobis et pro multis, to Korean society, and, at the same time, to perform as a nonprofit organization to provide for the public benefit. Since its establishment, the foundation has successfully played the role of fiscal intermediary, raising and distributing funds to support other types of nonprofits, such as direct service providers. However, the foundation is also expected to play the roles of economic regulator and community problem-solver. The Foundation also needs to extend its activities from a Catholic base to at least include a secular base if is to settle its position as one of the primary nonprofit funding intermediaries in Korea and ultimately achieve its public purpose. Because this study analyzed a single case, it has a limitation of generalization and needs further analysis using various data resources.
