蘇軾의 佛敎詩에 미친 ≪維摩經≫의 영향 연구 (The Study of Vimalakīrtinirdeśa-sūtra's Influence on Su Shi's Buddhist Poems)

초록

소식은 불교시 500여 수를 남겼는데 그 중에는 선중의 ≪維摩經≫, ≪楞嚴經≫, ≪法華經≫, ≪金剛經≫, ≪華嚴經≫, ≪圓覺經≫ 등 6대 경전이 미친 영향이 두렷하게 보이고 당대의 사대부 문인과 불교 사상 간의 밀접한 관계에 대한 연구에 소중한 역사적인 자료의 가치를 가지고 있다. 특히 ≪유마경≫과 관련된 시는 40여수가 있으며 가장 많은 비중을 차지하고 있다. ≪유마경≫은 晋나라부터 謝靈運, 王維, 白居易 등을 비롯한 사대부 문인들에 시학적인 영향이 작지 않고 宋대까지 사대부 거사 집단 속에 매우 유행했었던 경서가 된 것을 볼 수 있다. 소식의 시와 ≪유마경≫에 대한 선행 연구도 있지만 구체적으로 ≪유마경≫의 사상 중류별로 분석한 결과가 아직 안 보이는 상황이다. 본고는 이러한 각도에서 소식의 ≪유마경≫과 관련된 시들을 분류하여 상세하게 해석하고 소식이 유마힐 거사 본인에 대한 정감과 크게 흡수한 ≪유마경≫의 無盡燈, 不二法門 등 사상을 시에서 잘 활용한 것을 살펴보았다.
소식은 20대 초반 지은 시부터 항상 자기를 병에 걸린 유마힐로 비기고 생활의 여러 방면에서 유마힐의 그림자를 잘 보여준다. 그리고 그는 ≪유마경≫의 무진등 사상으로 ‘세속의 욕심으로 인한 집하는 마음을 없애야 한다’는 주장을 내고 불이법문 사상에서 출발하여 시의 창작 이론을 儒家의 ‘詩言志’說에서 佛家의 ‘詩言法’說으로 발전시켰다. 소식의 ≪유마경≫과 관련된 시들은 당대 사대부 문인들이 ≪유마경≫에서 받은 심리적, 사상적, 문학적 영향을 끼쳤을 뿐만 아니라 그들에 대한 연구도 당대 다른 시인의 작품 연구에 큰 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

Su Shi has left us 500 odd Buddhist poems which are remarkably wrote under the influence of the Zen sect's 6 famous scriptures: Vimalakīrtinirdeśa-sūtra, Śurangama-sūtra, Sad-dharma Puṇḍárīka-sūtra, Vájra-cchedikā-prajñā-pāramitā-sūtra, Mahā-vaipulya-buddhâvataṃsaka-sūtra and Mahāvaipulya-pūrabuddha-sūtra-prasannārtha-sūtra. These poems are invaluable for the study on the relationship between contemporary gentry scholars and Buddhist thought. In particular, there are 40 odd poems that connect with Vimalakīrtinirdeśa-sūtra and have the highest percentage. Vimalakīrtinirdeśa-sūtra had significantly influenced the genty scholars from Jin dynasty headed by Xie Lingyun, Wang Wei, Bai Juyi etc. on poetics and could be regarded as a very popular scripture in the gantry scholar society. Although there has been a few studies on Su Shi's poems and Vimalakīrtinirdeśa-sūtra, the achievement of analysing those poems concretely by different varieties of Vimalakīrtinirdeśa-sūtra's thought has not appeared yet. The essay is just grounded on this base to classify and detail associated poems so as to find how Su Shi made flexible use of his worship of Vimala-kīrti and Vimalakīrtinirdeśa-sūtra's thought of Endless Lamp and the Way with No Judgment in his poetic creation.
Su Shi often compared himself to Vimala-kīrti's in the poems written from his 20s and has successfully presented Vimala-kīrti's influence on all aspects of his life. He also showed his insistence on getting rid of the obsession that caused by temporal greed through the use of Endless Lamp thought and fostered Buddhist poetic creation theory of 'Poems Expressing Buddhism' which developed from Confucian poetic creation theory of ‘Poems Expressing Will’. Su Shi's poems connected with Vimalakīrtinirdeśa-sūtra not only express its psychological, ideological, literary influence on contemporary gentry scholars but also could be a great helpful approach to the studies on other poets' creations.
