한국과 미국의 고등학생 경제이해도 평가 결과를 통해 본 경제이해도 및 평가 도구 비교 분석 (A Comparative Analysis between Korea and U.S. High School Students’ Economic Literacy)

초록

본 연구는 2010년에 한국경제교육협회(KAEE) 주관으로 이루어졌던 고등학생의 경제이해도 평가 점수를 미국의 TEL 점수와 비교함으로써 한국과 미국 학생들의 경제이해도 수준과 양국의 평가도구의 난이도 차이를 비교 분석한 것이다. 서로 다른 시점과 평가도구로 이루어졌던 양국의 평가 결과를 연계시키기 위해 본 연구에서는 2012년에 전국의 59개 고등학교에 재학 중인 2,127명의 2학년 학생을 표본집단으로 선정하여 양국의 평가 문항으로 동시에 테스트하였다.
2012년 표본집단의 2010년 KAEE 테스트 결과는 2010년과 크게 다르지 않았으며, 특히 일반계 고등학생의 평가 결과는 거의 일치하였다. 또 미국의 TEL은 한국의 KAEE 문항에 비해 중상위권 학생들에게는 다소 쉬운 것으로, 하위권 학생들에게는 다소 어려운 것으로 나타났다. 평가 도구의 난이도 조정 후 비교 결과, 한국 학생들의 경제이해도는 중상위권 학생의 경우 미국 학생에 비해 5-10점 정도가 낮은 것으로 나타났지만, 일반계 고등학생만을 대상으로 한 비교에서는 중위권 학생은 거의 차이가 없었으며, 상위권에서도 5점 이내로 차이가 감소하였다.

영어초록

Korea and U.S. are the two countries which have national test results for economic literacy of high school students. However, we can hardly compare students' economic literacy level because of the differences in the test tools(U.S.-TEL, Korea-KAEE TEST), test sample(U.S.-7,243, Korea-9,442), and testing period(U.S.-2000, Korea-2010).
In this paper, we compare the economic literacy level of Korea and U.S. students by connecting 2010 KAEE score with TEL score. For this indirect comparison, we administered both TEL and KAEE TEST simultaneously for the 2,127 students sample group selected from 59 high schools in Korea from June 26 to July 10, 2012.
The result of analysis shows that there are quite big differences up to 16 points in the economic literacy of high school students between two countries, i.e. U.S. students are superior to Korean students in economic literacy in every range of scores. However, in case of students under general track in high school, the difference reduces within 5 points at most. Regarding the difficulties of test kits, it turns out that TEL appears to be easier than KAEE TEST to most Korean students except some students group with lower score ranges.
