초록

이 논문은 적강형(謫降型) <두껍전>의 새로운 이본인 전남대학교 도서관 소장 <둑겁전>을 학계에 처음 소개하고, 이 이본의 특성과 의의에 대해 살피는 것을 목적으로 한다. 전남대본은 현전하는 적강형 <두껍전> 이본 중 특이한 이본으로 알려진 기미본(己未本)과 가장 높은 친연성을 보인다. 이 두 이본은 주인공의 과거시험 응시 및 급제와 관련된 에피소드가 추가되어 있으며, 꿈 모티프의 활용이 자주 나타난다는 공통점이 있다.
하지만 장인의 두 번째 생신 잔치에서 주인공이 좌중을 모두 짐승으로 변신시키는 내용과 승천하지 않는 결말은 전남대본에서만 볼 수 있는 것이다. 또한 전남대본은 비현실성과 환상성이 강한 내용과 달리 작품의 공간적 배경은 지리적 사실을 반영하여 설정해놓았으며, 여타의 이본에 비해 사설치레가 풍부하고 다양하게 나타난다는 특성이 있다. 그리고 주인공 못지않게 양부(養父)에게도 서사의 초점이 놓여 있으며, 무엇보다도 겉으로 드러난 모습이나 신분의 높낮이만으로 다른 사람을 쉽게 무시하고 차별하는 양반 계층을 우스꽝스럽게 만드는 희화화와 풍자가 강화된 이본이라고 할 수 있다.
이러한 전남대본의 발견을 통하여, 적강형 <두껍전> 연구에 활기를 불어넣을 수 있는 계기가 되기를 기대한다.

영어초록

The purpose of this paper is to introduce the newly discovered ‘banishment from heaven’ type Dukkeopjeon of the Chonnam National University Library to the academic world for the first time and to examine the characteristics and significance of this manuscript. The Jeonnam script shows the highest affinity with the Gimibon(己未本), known as a unique version, among the different version of Dukkeopjeon. In the two editions, episodes of the main character's pass the civil service examination are added, and there is a common point that dream motifs are often used.
However, at the father-in-law's second birthday party, the main character transforms all the people in the audience into beasts and the ending that does not ascend to heaven can only be seen in the Jeonnam script. In addition, unlike the content with strong unrealism and fantasy, the spatial background of the work is set to reflect geographical facts, and compared to other Dukkeopjeon editions, This Jeonnam script contains a rich and diverse style of Pansori. And as much as the main character, the focus of the narrative is on the adoptive father. And above all, it can be said that it is a manuscript that strongly satirizes the the class of Yangban(兩班) who ignore only their class or appearance.
Through the discovery of the Jeonam script, it is hoped that it will be an opportunity to revitalize the research on ‘banishment from heaven’ type Dukkeopjeon.
