구한말, 일제시대의 사회변화와 강루리 안동권씨의 대응 (Response of Kangruri Andong Kwon Family to Social Changes in the Latter Era of Chosun Dynasty and the Japanese Colonial Period)

초록

조선 초기 丹城에 들어온 安東權씨는 단계리를 중심으로 다른 마을로 뻗어가 독자적인 파를 형성하며, 이 지역에 영향력을 미치는 명망 가문으로 자리잡았다. 霜嵒公派(愚川公派)도 그중의 하나이다. 안동권씨 상암공파(우천공파) 가문은 南冥學風을 잇는 입장에 있었지만, 정치적인 면에서는 서인․노론화해 갔다. 강루리 일대에 세거해 온 이들은 星州李씨 桐谷公派와 함께 朱子와 尤菴의 영정을 봉안하는 新安書院의 운영을 주도하고 있었다. 조선 말기 신안서원이 훼철된 후에도 양 가문은 이곳에 新安精舍를 중건하였다. 이곳이 영남 및 다른 지역의 노론계 유명 인사들이 자주 찾는 주요한 곳이 되면서, 강루리 안동권씨는 전국의 주요 명사들과 교유하고 그들의 학문적 영향도 받았다.
강루리 안동권씨 인물 중에는 蘆沙學派를 추종하는 자들이 많았지만, 이외에 勉菴 崔益鉉의 문인도 있었고, 淵齋 宋秉璿이나 艮齋 田愚의 문인도 일부 있었다. 그리고 안동권씨는 다른 학파나 다른 당파의 인물과 교유하는 경우도 적지 않았다.
구한말 급격한 사회변화 속에서 강루리 안동권씨도 적극적으로 衛正斥邪의 입장을 취하고 있었다. 이들 중 일부 인사는 단발령 등의 시책에 저항하고 의병에도 참여하려 하였다. 갑오경장 이후 당국의 적극적인 지원과 독려로 전국적으로 곳곳에 신식학교가 세워졌다. 그런데 많은 신식학교는 민족적 입장은 모호하고 오히려 친일적인 성격을 띠고 있었다. 이런 신교육 운동이 확산되자 단성에서는 이에 대한 유림들의 저항이 여러 가지 형태로 나타났다.
그러나 사회의 변화속에 서당의 ‘舊學’ 교육은 점차 위축되고, 명망 가문의 자제들도 자발적으로 신식학교에 입학하는 사례가 점차 확산된다. 그러나 안동권씨 내의 일부 뜻있는 인사들은 ‘구학’을 지켜나가기 위한 노력을 하고 있었다. 특히 權載奎는 유림의 임무가 구학을 독실하게 지키고 자제들을 지성으로 인도하여 유교적 학문을 익히도록 하는 것이라고 굳게 믿고, 생도들에게 구학을 배우는 올바른 자세를 계속 강조하고 있었다.

영어초록

In the beginning of Chosun Dynasty, Andong Kwon Family(安東權) settled down around Dankye-ri having moved into Danseong(丹城). The family eventually expanded their influence to other villages and made it clear that they were the most prestigious family in the region. Sangamgong-pa(霜嵒公派) (Woocheongong-pa愚川公派) was one of the family. Sangamgong-pa (Woocheongong-pa) Family of Andong Kwon Family was supposed to inherit Nammyeonghakpoong(南冥學風) but from the aspect of politics, the family had slowly joined Seoin․Noron Group. As they were residing in Kangru-ri with Donggokgong- pa(桐谷公派) of Seongju Lee Family(星州李), they looked after Shinanseowon(新安書院) in which portraits of the deceased Juja(朱子) and Wooahm(尤菴) were enshrined. Even after Shinanseowon was demolished in the latter era of Chosun Dynasty, both the families built Shinanjeongsa(新安精舍) in the region. As a more number of renowned figures in Yeongnam and other regions frequently visited the region, Andong Kwon Family in Kangruri was able to communicate with nationwide major figures and were affected by them in a scientific manner.
Many of Kangruri Andong Kwon Family admired Nosahakpa(蘆沙學派) but still, there were a few writers such as Myeonahm(勉菴) Choi Ik-hyun(崔益鉉), Yeonjae(淵齋) Song Byeong-seon(宋秉璿) and Kanjae(艮齋) Jeon Woo(艮齋). In addition, Andong Kwon Family was willing to interact with figures from other schools or other factions.
In the rapid social changes during the latter era of Chosun Dynasty, Kangruri Andong Kwon Family was also one of them who were decisively with Weejeongcheoksa(衛正斥邪). Some of them were even fighting against policies such as the ordinance prohibiting topknots and showed willingness to join an army raised in the cause of justice. After Kabohkyeongjang, new schools were built everywhere by unsparing support and encouragement of the central government. However, those new schools did not take the ethnic stance but rather were favorable to Japan. As such new education move became stronger, Yoorim(儒林) in Danseong started to resist the change in various ways.
Nevertheless, the social changes weakened 'the traditional education(舊學)' by Seodang and the growing number of offsprings of the renowned families voluntarily signed up for the new schools. However, despite the change, some figures in Andong Kwon Family were trying to preserve 'the traditional education'. In particular, Kwon Jae-kyu(權載奎) kept emphasizing the importance of 'the traditional education' to his students strongly believing that the duties of Yoorim were to sincerely preserve the traditional education and to lead the students to the world of intelligence.
