통일신라시대 금호강 유역의 공간 구조 개편 (The Spatial Restructuring of the Geumho River Valley in the Unified Silla Period)

초록

『삼국사기』 지리지에 의하면 통일신라시대 壽昌郡(喟火郡)과 臨臯郡(切也火郡)의 郡治는 각각 수창(위화)과 임고(절야화)였지만, 삼국시대에는 大丘(達句火)와 臨川(骨火)이 각각 그 중심지였던 것으로 추정된다. 이와 같은 군치의 변화에 대해서 기존에는 중앙에 의한 지역(군) 내 세력 관계의 조정이라는 식으로 설명했지만, 본고에서는 공간 구조의 개편이라는 측면에서 이해하였다. 즉 통일기에 들어 王京뿐만 아니라 州治 및 小京의 공간에 대해서도 정비가 이루어졌는데 그것은 평지에 일정한 시가지를 조성하는 것이었다. 군치에 대해서도 이러한 작업이 이루어졌는지는 분명하지 않지만, 금호강 유역 수창군과 임고군의 경우에는 그것과 관련하여 군치의 변경이 이루어진 것으로 파악하였다.
수창군의 경우, 신문왕 때 달구벌로의 천도 시도가 있었는데, 그것은 당나라 장안성을 모델로 한 새로운 도성을 조영하기 위한 것이었다고 생각되며, 그렇다면 수창(위화) 지구의 평지가 그 예정지였을 가능성이 크다. 다만 실제로 부지 조성 공사가 이루어졌는지는 알기 어려운데, 그 일대의 지적원도를 검토해본 결과 수창군 추정 중심지의 좁은 범위에서 약간의 정방향 도로와 토지 구획을 확인할 수 있었다. 즉 얼마나 공사가 이루어졌는지는 알기 어렵지만, 이러한 일이 계기가 되어 수창(위화) 지구의 평지 시가지에 새로운 군치를 마련한 것으로 추정하였다. 임고군치 역시, 사실 그 위치를 확정짓기는 어렵지만 임천(골화)과 구별되는 평지 시가지였다고 생각된다. 다만 나말 여초의 혼란기에는 다시 인근의 성곽, 堡가 중요하게 활용되었을 것이다.

영어초록

According to the Treatise on Geography in Samguksagi, the county seat of Suchang-gun was Suchang (Wihwa) and that of Imgo-gun was Imgo (Jeoryahwa) in the Unified Silla period. However, in the Three Kingdoms period, it is presumed that the center of each gun (county) was Dalguhwa and Golhwa. Existing theories explained that the change of center means an adoption of new partner in the county, but I think that it should be interpreted as the spatial restructuring. After the unification, Silla renovated not only Wanggyeong (King’s Capital) but also provincial centers, which was to make street grid on the plain. It is not clear whether this work was done for the county seats, but it is recognized that the movement of centers in the Geumho River Valley was related to the making of new county towns.
There was an attempt to move the capital into Dalgubeol (same as Dalguhwa) during the reign of King Sinmun(681~692). It is thought that it was intended to make a new city modeled on Chang’an of the Tang dynasty, and the planed place was the plain of Suchang. The attempt failed, and it is difficult to know whether the site construction was actually done. As a result of reviewing the first cadastral maps made in 1910, it was possible to recognize some north-south roads and square land divisions in a narrow range of the center of Suchang-gun. It is hard to know how much the construction was done, but it can be said that it was the occasion and a new county town was made on the place. It is presumed that Imgo was also a new town located on the plain. However, in the chaotic period of late Silla and early Goryeo, nearby fortresses became important again in both counties.
