대학 독후감 쓰기 교육의 문제점과 개선 방안에 관한 연구 (A Study on Problems and Improvement of Book Report Writing Education in University)

초록

본 연구는 대학 독후감 교육이 지닌 문제점을 밝히고 그 개선안을 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. 글의 장르에 대한 이해는 글쓰기 과정과 그 결과물에 큰 영향을 미친다는 점에서, 무엇보다 먼저 독후감에 어떠한 내용이 포함되어 있어야 하는지에 대한합의를 이끌어내는 것이 중요하다. 또한 독후감 쓰기가 단순히 읽기를 점검하는 과제로서의 성격에서 벗어나 학술적 글쓰기 교육의 한 가지 방법이 되기 위해서는 독후감 쓰기에도 문학적 서평, 학술적 서평과 같은 학문적 프레임을 적용할 것이 요구된다. 교육적 측면에서는 읽기와 쓰기가 함께 학습될 때 그 효과성이 커질 것이라는 막연한 기대에서 벗어나, 다양한 문식성 발달 단계에 놓여 있는 학습자들 각자에게 적합한 독서 후 활동을마련하는 것이 중요하다. 대학생들이 모국어로 글을 쓰는 경우 느끼는 불안감은 외국어학습 시에 느끼는 불안의 정도에 비해 결코 가볍지 않고, 과제로서의 독후감은 평가와 같은 외적 동기가 더 중요하게 작용할 수밖에 없기 때문에 글쓰기의 본질을 왜곡시킬 가능성이 매우 높다. 개인적 성찰의 결과물을 글쓰기 능력의 측정 도구로 사용하는 것은 타당하지 않으며, 결과물의 완성도에 집착하도록 하여 오히려 책읽기와 글쓰기의 의미를 퇴색하게 하는 현재의 독후감 교육을 대학에서 계속 유지할 것인가의 문제는 매우 시급히 논의되어야 할 사안이다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to clarify the problems of book report writing education in university and to suggest ways to improve them. The understanding and knowledge of the genre is very important for writing education. Therefore, it is crucial to draw an agreement on what should be included in the book report. In order to become a way to develop learners’ academic writing ability, academic frames such as literary book reviews and academic book reviews should be applied to book report writing education. It is also important to develop post-reading activities appropriate for each of the learners who are at various stages of literacy development, away from the vague expectation that educational effectiveness will increase when reading and writing are taught at the same time. The anxiety that college students feel when they write in their native language is never lower than the degree of anxiety they feel when learning a foreign language. It is very likely that the book report writing as a homework assignment will distort the essence of writing because extrinsic motivation such as evaluation is exerted. It is not reasonable to use personal reflection as a measurement instrument for writing ability. The current book report writing system which make students and teachers focus mainly on the results of writing and also take the pleasure out of reading and writing is an urgent issue that needs readdressing and fixing in liberal arts education field.
