전국 市郡誌에 기술된 각 지역 醫療 관련 地域語 사용양상 연구 (A Study on the Local Variations of Medical Terms Used in Geography Books in Various Regions Cities And Counties of Korea)

초록

우리나라는 예로부터 지역 향토지를 간행하였다. 각 지역이 보유하고 있는 고유한 문화는 체계적으로 전승되어 내려오지 않고, 기층문화로서 사람들 사이에서 경험과 구전을 통해서 전해져서 이어왔다. 이러한 지역의 문화를 이해할 수 있는 자료로 각 지방자치단체 및 공공기관에서 간행하는 시군지(市郡誌)가 있다.
시군지는 실제 지역의 삶을 현장에서 조사한 점에서 표준국어대사전에서 찾을 수 없는 지역의 문화와 관련된 어휘를 발견할 수 있고 해당 지역에 사는 사람들이 공유하고 있는 전통적 의료인식과 질병관을 확인할 수 있다. 그러므로 의료와 관련된 지역별 용어의 사용도 이러한 시군지 속에서 찾아야 한다.
의료 관련 지역어 수집 및 분석은 한 지역사회의 문화와 전통을 간직한 언어 유산으로서 가치를 지니고 있다. 본 논문에서는 전국의 각 지역에서 간행된 시군지 중에서 의료 관련 지역어가 기술된 시군지를 종합적으로 분석하였고, 그 결과 68지역 시군에서 1,966건의 의료 관련 지역어가 조사되었다. 이중 본 논문에서는 의료 관련 지역어 중에서 일상적으로 빈번하게 발생하는 질병 중에서 피부질환인 두드러기ㆍ부스럼, 호흡기 질환인 감기ㆍ딸꾹질의 지역별 지역어 현황과 전근대 시기부터 대표적으로 발생한 전염성 질환인 학질(瘧疾)의 지역어 현황을 살펴보았다.
현재 각 지역에서 사용하고 있는 지역어 연구는 국문학과 민속학에서 주로 연구가 되었을 뿐 전통의학의 영역에서 연구된 적은 거의 찾을 수 없었기에, 수집ㆍ조사를 통한 전반적인 분석은 본 논문의 의의 중 하나이다. 향후 각 지역에 산재해 있는 의료 관련 지역어를 심층 분석하여 우리나라 고유의 민간요법에 사용한 지역별 언어의 DB화가 요구된다.

영어초록

For many years in the past, many cities and counties of Korea published their own local geography books. The original cultures maintained in each of the areas, however, have not been properly protected and handed in a systematic manner. However, as a subculture, such heritages was inherited via experience and verbal transmission among people. A good source of information on such cultural heritage is the geography books published by the local government or the public agencies.
Such geography gooks sometimes contain valuable vocabulary that cannot be found in the standard Korean dictionary as a result of the researches on the actual practices of the real people. Such vocabularies are shared among the residents of the area and help us understand the way the people in the area perceive the medical services and the diseases. And, this is the very place where one might expect to find the different usage of medical terms by regions.
The survey and analysis of the local variation of the medical terms have a significant value as a linguistic heritage containing the culture and tradition of a local community. In this article, various geography books published in each region of the country were analyzed, and, as a result, 1966 medical terms (local variations) were discovered from 68 cities or counties. Especially, in this study, the local variations of the medical terms depicting the most commonly found skin disorders, such as rash, furnucles, and respiratory diseases such as flu or hiccups were survey. Also, the local variations of malaria, a disease which was wide spread since the beginning of the modern times, were examined as well.
One of the significance of this study is that, while the studies on the local variations of medical terms in Korea have been performed in the field of Korean language or folklore, there have scarcely been any study on this topic in the traditional medicine before this study. Future studies would also be necessary in order to deeply analyze the local variations of the medical terms, especially those regarding the folk remedies, in order to create a DB of the local variations.
