초록

As King Jeongjo overcame the obstacles of various political forces that denied his legitimacy, he had prepared the Jonhyeongak Diary from an early age as a means to consolidate his legitimacy as a king and create a justification to politically remove those who opposed him. Yeongjosillok and Yeongmyobogam also served to strengthen the legitimacy of King Jeongjo. However, the Yeongjosillok contained the specific circumstances of the Imohwabyeon, and the Yeongmyobogam did not contain the circumstances of the Imohwabyeon, but it was difficult to compare to the Yeongjosillok in terms of status and quantity as a chronicle of government. At this point, there was room for the following alternatives. In other words, it is the creation of a chronicle of government that excludes records related to the Imohwabyeon while having enough information to reproduce the era of the King Jeongjo’s era through daily records. This is how Ilseongnok was born.
When the organization and function of Gyujanggak were reorganized in his early reign period, King Jeongjo officially ordered the compilation of Ilseongnok, saying that he would deliver the diary that he recorded to future generations. Therefore, King Jeongjo was able to create the following narrative through Ilseongnok. First, the succession of royal authority from King Yeongjo to King Jeongjo was very ‘beautiful and just’. Second, the ‘heinous conspiracy’ of the ‘those who interfered with the succession of royal authority’ completely failed. Ilseongnok pursued not only the creation of such a specific narrative but also the deletion of facts at the same time. All the specific circumstances of the Imohwabyeon that occurred during the Yeongjo period were completely deleted. This is because it was an incident that did not help consolidate his legitimacy. In short, it can be evaluated that the creation of a new official chronicle called Ilseongnok was a product for political purposes to consolidate King Jeongjo's legitimacy.
