조부모-손자녀 가정 유아의 생활에 관한 연구 - 농촌지역을 중심으로 - (A Study on Young Children’s Life at Grandparent Grandchild Families - Focused on rural areas -)

본 연구는 조부모-손자녀 가정 유아의 생활을 알아보고 어떤 삶을 살고 있는지 파악하여 그들을 위한 바람직한 지원의 기초 자료를 제공 하고자 하였다. 이를 위한 연구대상은 농촌지역 조부모-손자녀 가정의 유아 8명이며, 2008년 3월부터 2008년 11월까지 심층면담과 참여관찰을 실시하였다. 연구 결과 조부모-손자녀 가정 유아가 경험하는 생활은 네 가지로 도출할 수 있었다. 첫째, 유아의 자신과 관련하여 ‘버려지고 가치 없는 존재라는 생각으로 인한 낮은 자아존중감’, ‘낯선 환경으로 인한 정서적 문제’로 나타났다. 둘째, 유아의 부모와 관련하여 ‘부모에 대한 원망, 분노, 미움을 갖기’, ‘부모의 상황을 어쩔 수 없이 받아들이거나 부모의 사랑을 끊임없이 갈망하며 그리워하기’로 나타났다. 셋째, 유아의 조부모와 관련하여 ‘노령의 조부모에 대한 신체적 건강을 걱정하며 유일한 양육자로서 절대적 의존과 사랑하기’, ‘조부모는 아무것도 모른다는 드러난 무시와 암묵적 무시하기’로 나타났다. 넷째, 유아의 교육·보육기관 관련하여 ‘교사에게 지나친 애정적 집착이나 거부하기’, ‘친구에게 왜곡된 자기표현과 소극적 대인관계 유지하기’로 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과는 최근 농촌지역에 급증하고 있는 조부모-손자녀 가정 유아들의 생활 실태를 파악하고 그 문제를 해결하기 위한 기초자료를 제공할 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

The present study purposed to survey young children’s life at grandparent grandchild families, to identify problems in their life, and to provide basic materials for desirable support to them. For these purposes, we sampled eight young children from grandparent grandchild families in rural areas, and conducted in depth interview and participant observation during the period from March to November, 2008. From the results of this study, we derived four types of problems experienced by young children at grandparent‐grandchild families. First, with regard the young children themselves, they had ‘low self‐esteem out of the thought that they were abandoned valueless beings’ and ‘emotional troubles caused by strange environment.’ Second, with regard to their parents, they had ‘resentment, anger, and hatred against the parents’ and ‘accepting the parents’ situation as inevitable and unceasingly missing and longing for the parents’ love.’ Third, with regard to their grandparents, they had ‘worry about the grandparents’ physical health and absolute dependence and love as their only caretakers’ and ‘explicit neglecting and implicit neglecting out of the thought that the grandparents know nothing.’ Fourth, with regard to their educational or childcare institutions, they had ‘excessive affective attachment to or rejection of the teacher’ and ‘distorted self expression to friends and maintenance of passive interpersonal relations.’ These results are expected to provide basic materials for understanding the life of young children at grandparent grandchild families, the number of which is increasing rapidly in rural areas, and for solving related problems.
