타이어 외래어 표기법의 문제점과 대안

초록

이 연구는 타이어 외래어 표기법의 문제를 토론하고 타이어 외래어 표기법을 수정⋅보완하여 대안을 제시한다. 타이어 외래어 표기법의 구성과 내용을 보면 로마자가 중심이고 타이어 자모가 부수적이다. 타이어 외래어 표기법의 바탕이 되는 태국의 로마자 표기법을 살펴본 결과 타이어 외래어 표기법의 혼란과 혼동의 원인이 여러 차례의 로마자 표기법 개정과 전사 및 전자 방식의 전환에서 비롯된 것임을 확인하였다. 타이어 외래어 표기법에서 나타나는 기준의 혼란, 오류, 미비점 등의 문제를 지적하고 기타 고려사항들을 참고하여 수정안 마련의 토대로 삼았다. 전자 방식 로마자 표기 체계에 바탕을 두고 현행 타이어 외래어 표기법의 오류를 수정하고 미비한 점을 보완하여 대안을 제시하였다.

영어초록

This study discusses problems in the current Thai Hangeulization System and proposes an alternative to it. Examination of the Thai Hangeulization System suggested that priority should have been given to the transcription of Thai sounds, not to the transliteration of Thai script, that Conversion and revision of the Thai romanization system in Thailand and the resulting different versions of it has brought confusion and convolution to the Thai Hangeulization System, and that a drifting anchor, an erroneous format, a clumsy selection of examples, and missing entries, has conspired to produce an ineffective Thai Hangeulization System. This study provides an alternative to the current Thai Hangeulization System, by placing the anchor on the proper side of transcription, correcting errors, and including a comprehensive list of Thai characters to be transcribed.
