The topic of <Korean Language and Korean Literature for the Communi- cation between Generations> is a topic of the academic relationships called "between generations" and "communication", and also is a topic related to the future of our humanities. The language and writing system of a people are the origin of the social communication in their own right. <Hunmin- jeongeum>, as the origin of the Korean language and writing system, described in its preface that the goal of creating 'Jeongeum' as the writing system of the nation is the communication of the people. Philosopher Ham, Sok-hon, who came up with Ssial Thought and wrote <<Queen of Suffering - A Spiritual History of Korea>> (1993) claimed that the concept of "ssial (people)" is the driving force of the Korean history, and he interpreted the concept to be the driving force for creating <Hunminjeongeum>. Ham, Sok-hon said that 'the writing system' is 'I', and people must use 'their own writing system' and speak 'their own language'. He said he wrote his book with 'the language which I, only I can use'. People who reach such understanding and the people who communicate with one another are "Ssial". Thus, It is a 'philosophy of language' and logic of communication which says that such 'language of mine' is the language and the writing system, which are used for reconciliation, exceeding communication, and it is connected to the "truth".
What was noteworthy was the fact that a beautiful tradition of communi- cation between the generations in the history of travel to Yanjing in the 18th century was the 'accompanying assistants' system. The Choseon delegation dispatched to Yanjing, China once a year could travel with some young men as the accompanying assistants, and among such accompanying assistants there were excellent travellers like Hong, Dae-yong (1731-83) and Park, Ji-won(1737-1805). In particular, <Hoiwurok>, which describes Hong, Dae-yong's making friends with Chinese scholars, is a record of communication with foreigners through using the written Chinese, and it was considered by Park, Ji-won and his disciples as a case of inter- subjective communication. In this case, even in criticism, it may be considered a desirable case of communication which shows the whole personal human relationship called 'conversation'. Especially the members of the Positive School of Choseon such as Hong, Dae-yong and Park Ji-won were the poor scholars who gave up taking the state examination which might have allowed them to hold governmental positions and pursued life of 'truth' called 'Silhak (practical learning)'. They were by far seniors of today's poor scholars of humanities and they were realists who communi- cated with foreign scholars and the astronomical phenomena.
In this presentation, the author concretely introduced his own case of educational communication and gave 'The Cattle-Grazing Record of a Teuri' as the subtitle of the thesis, and appended the conversation between the author and a disciple of his who had a question-and-answer session based on this presentation material. 'Teuri' is a shepherd boy who grazes the cattle in Jeju Island, and this appendage contains the thoughts on the presenter's own cattle-grazing experience.
