항공노선의 진입순서와 성과에 관한 실증연구

초록

본 연구는 항공사의 개별노선을 분석단위로 하여 진입순서와 시장성과와의 관계를 분석하였다. 특히 선발 진입이 시장성과에 영향력을 미치는 지의 여부를 분석하고 이러한 진입순서 효과가 여타 다른 변수의 존재 하에서는 어떻게 변화하는 가를 검정하였다. 또한 기업이 보유한 여러 가지 자원들이 항공사가 개별 노선에 선발로 진입하는데 영향력을 행사하고 있는지의 여부를 검정하였다. 주요 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 선발 진입 행위가 시장성과에 정의 방향으로 영향력을 행사하는 것으로 관찰되었다. 둘째, 선발 진입 효과가 기업이 보유한 여러 가지 자원을 통제하고 분석했을 때는 그 효과가 감소되는 결과를 보여주고 있다. 셋째, 기업활동 경험, 항공사의 명성 등이 항공사가 개별노선에 선발로 진입하는데 영향력을 행사하는 것으로 분석되었다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to find out the relationship between the order of entry and market performance, and its mechanism in international airline routes. To meet this purpose, an empirical study has been carried out. The framework of this study is constructed as follows: Various kinds of theories related to the order of entry and methodologies for the estimation of effect on market performance of the order of entry have been reviewed. Besides pure order of entry effect, Other variables, structures and resources, are chosen to test the order of entry effect in the presence of such variables. Other variables selected are nationality of a carrier(proxy variable for the effectiveness of a network at origin station), the numbers of operating cities(proxy variable for the effectiveness of worldwide network), the kinds of traffic right(proxy variable for the effectiveness of a network at origin or destination station), global experience of a carrier, local experience of a carrier, the reputation of a carrier, scale of a carrier, and frequency share. The major results of empirical analysis are summarized as follows: firstly, result shows significant relationship between the order of entry and market performance as we expected. Secondly, the variables related with the order of entry are the global experience of a carrier and the reputation of a carrier. Finally, there appears to be significant differences in structure and resources between the first entrant group and the later entrant group. We can assume from this result that the order of entry can be influenced by structure and resources of a carrier, some of which affect market performance. The statistical methods used to test the hypothesis are t-test, regression analysis, and logit analysis.
