대학 인성교육을 위한‘교양음악’의 방향

이 연구는 대학의 ‘교양음악’ 교과를 통한 ‘인성교육’에 관한 것이다. 인성교육에 대한 시대적 요 구는 2015 ‘인성교육진흥법’ 제정(制定)에 이르렀고, 이는 교육의 현장에서도 인성교육에 대한 국가 적·사회적 요구를 즉각적으로 수용해 반영하지 않을 수 없게 된 것을 뜻한다. 이 같은 시각에서, 본 연구의 화두(話頭)는 ‘교양 교과목으로서 음악을 통한 인성교육은 어떤 의미이고, 또 어떠한 방 향성이 제시될 수 있는가?’하는 것이다.
이 연구에서는 우선, 인성교육에 대한 정부의 목표와 교육정책의 측면에서 ‘대학 인성교육의 필 요성’을 고찰함으로, 국가적·사회적 차원에서 교양음악을 통한 인성교육의 의의를 돌아본다. 둘째, 대학에서의 인성교육이 일차적으로 교양교육을 통해 이루어져야 한다는 전제 아래, 대학교육과 인성 교육의 상관성 및 음악교육과 인성교육의 상관성들을 다룬 국내 학술연구들의 선행연구를 통해 ‘인 성교육’에 대한 연구 경향을 파악한다. 이로써 ‘대학 인성교육 연구’에 대한 학문적 요구를 조명한다. 셋째, 인성교육의 ‘개인적-상호적-사회적 측면’에 입각한 ‘교양음악’을 통한 대학 인성교육의 교육 목 표를 세운다. 그러므로 우리나라 지방거점대학 10곳과 영국의 대학평가기관인 THE(Times Higher Education)가 선정한 ‘2015-2016 세계대학평가’ 상위 800위권 내에 속한 우리나라 대학 24개교를 포함해 총 28개 대학을 중심으로, 각 대학에 개설되어 있는 음악 관련 교양 교과목들의 현황 분석 을 통해 인성교육을 현실화하기 위한 교과로서 ‘교양음악’의 가능성과 문제점을 타진한다. 마지막으 로, 이를 통해 합리적이고, 효과적인 대학 인성교육을 위한 ‘교양음악’이 나아가야 할 방향성에 대해 제시한다.

영어 초록

This study addresses character education through music courses as undergraduate general education in college. The needs for character education of the times led to the enactment of Character Education Promotion Act of 2015, which indicates that the field of education has been forced to instantly embrace and reflect the national and social needs for character education. Taking that viewpoint, the present study sought after a topic of "what meanings character education had through music as a course of general education and what directionality could be proposed" in character education for college students.
The study first examined a "need for musical character education for college students" in the aspects of goals and educational policies that the government set for character education to figure out the significance of character education through music courses as undergraduate general education at the national and social level. Secondly, on the premise that character education should primarily be provided through general education in college, the study looked into the research trends of character education in previous studies on correlations between college education and character education and between music education and character education published in domestic journals, thus shedding light on academic needs for research on musical character education for college students. Thirdly, it set the goals of musical character education for college students based on the elements of character education including personal, relational, and social character. The current states of music-related general education courses were analyzed in total 28 universities, which include ten local base universities of South Korea and 24 South Korean universities that were in top 800 of "2015-2016 World University Rankings" by Times Higher Education (THE), a British university evaluation institution, to examine the possibilities and problems of music courses as undergraduate general education as courses of character education in an attempt to actualize character education. Finally, the findings were used to propose directionality for music courses as undergraduate general education for musical character education.
