본 연구는 남녀 유아의 놀이성, 정서조절능력과 사회적 유능성의 관계에 대해 살펴보고자 실시되었
다. 이를 위해 3-5세 유아 146명의 담임교사를 대상으로 유아의 놀이성, 정서조절능력, 사회적 유능성
을 알아보았다. 연구결과 첫째, 유아의 놀이성, 정서조절능력, 사회적 유능성은 성별, 연령에 따른 차이
가 부분적으로 나타났으며 출생순위에 따른 차이는 없었다. 둘째, 유아의 놀이성, 정서조절능력과 사회
적 유능성은 모두 유의한 상관을 보였다. 셋째, 남녀 유아의 사회적 유능성에 영향을 미치는 변인들의
상대적 설명력은 성별 차이가 나타났다. 남녀 유아의 사회적 유능성을 하위요인별로 영향력을 알아본
결과, 남아와 여아의 친사회적 행동에 영향을 미치는 유의한 변인은 정서조절능력이었으며, 불안-위축
행동에 영향을 미치는 변인은 남아(연령, 신체적 자발성, 정서조절능력)와 여아(신체적 자발성)가 다르
게 나타났다. 남아의 분노-공격 행동은 연령, 유머감각, 정서조절능력이 유의한 영향을 미쳤으며 여아
는 인지적 자발성, 정서조절능력이 유의한 영향을 미쳤다.

영어 초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relations of children's playfulness and
emotion regulation to social competence. Subjects were 146 3-5 years-old children and their
teachers in their classes of 9 child care centers in Seoul. Instruments used in this study
were the Children's Playfulness Scale(CPS: Barnett, 1990), Emotion Regulation(Lee, 1997),
Social competence Behavior Evaluation (SCBE-30: La Freiniere & Dumas, 1996). Results
indicated that (a) the level of girl’s playfulness and social competence were higher than
boys'. (b) children's playfulness correlated positively with both emotion regulation and social
competence. (c) the variables predicting boy’s social competence were age, playfulness and
emotion regulation. In contrast, girls’ playfulness and emotion regulation. explained social
competence.
