초록

"‘의(義)’와 ‘이(利)’에 대한 관점은 시대와 사회를 막론하고 도덕 실천에 있어서 매우 중요한 문제이다. 오늘날 우리 사회가 지닌 많은 문제의 발단도 ‘의’와 ‘이’에 대한 그릇된 이해와 판단에서 야기된것이라고 볼 수 있다. 따라서 이 글은 중국 윤리 사상사에서 ‘의’와 ‘이’의 문제가 본격적으로 제기되기 시작했던 선진시대의 두 학자, 공자와 묵자의 의리관을 재조명하여 특성과 시사점을 추론하고자 한다.
언필칭, 공자는 ‘의’를 중시하고 ‘이’를 경시함으로써 ‘이’를 터부시했다고 한다. 그러나 당시 시대적 상황을 고려해 볼 때 공자는 정당한 방법에 의한 ‘이’의 추구를 부정하지 않았다. 오히려 어떻게 ‘이’를 추구하는 것이 바람직한 것인지를 제시하고자 하였다. 묵자의 의리관 역시 종전의 연구 성과들은 묵자의 ‘이’에 대한 충분한 분석없이 묵자의 ‘의’와 ‘이’를 분별될 수 없는 것으로 일반화시키고 있지만, 묵자의 ‘이’를 규명해 볼 때 이 역시 제대로 된 묵자의 입장이라고 보기 어렵다.
선진 시대와 현대는 많은 시간적 거리를 두고 있지만 당시의 의리관이 오늘날 우리에게 의미하는 바는 적지 않다. 특히, 공자와 묵자의 의리관을 상호 보완함으로써 오늘의 우리가 도덕 판단과 도덕 실천을 하는데 있어서 하나의 중요한 준거가 될 수 있다."

영어초록

"The opinion about Justice and Benefit are an important matters in moral activities throughout the ages. The many wrong matters happen today are caused by the ignorance and misunderstanding about the two concepts. So I want to focus again of the two important scholars’ opinion about Justice and Benefit. And try to readjust their teachings about the two concepts.
People say that Confucius thinks light of Benefits and thinks much of Justice. But if we consider his times, he didn’t reject the pursuit of Benefit. On the contrary, he tried to suggest how to pursue the Benefits in a right way.
Mozi’s thoughts about Justice and Benefits are also misunderstood. People didn’t analyze Mozi’s ideology completely and just thought that the Justice and Benefit can not exist at the same time. But if we consider his thought carefully, that’s not correct.
Although the times changed a lot, the Confucius and Mozi’s thoughts about Justice and Benefits can be important meaning even these days. If we can accept the two scholar’s opinions about the Justice and Benefit. in a right way, it will be a good standard to our moral life
