초록

본 연구는 강원도민의 건강, 스포츠, 여가시간에 대한 인식을 분석하고 있다. 잘 알려진 바와 같이 강원도의 도청소재지인 춘천은 2010년 제11회 세계 레저 총회(World Leisure Congress)를 개최하고 있어, 본 논문은 관련 분야의 가장 중요한 세계적 이벤트를 주최하는 지역의 주민이 여가 전반에 관해 지닌 인식과 행위에 대한 정보를 제공한다는 의미가 있다. 분석 결과에 따르면 강원도민은 활기차고 건강하며 스포츠 지향적인 공동체에서 삶을 영위하고 있는 것으로 나타난다. 건설적인 활동에 그들의 여가시간을 의미있게 활용하고 있는 것이다. 여가와 스포츠가 많은 사람들에게 행복과 후생을 공여하는 일종의 가치재(merit good)임을 고려한다면, 여가와 스포츠에 비교우위가 있는 이 지역이 더 나은 여가 시설과 프로그램을 국민 전체에게 제공할 수 있도록 중앙정부와 지자체 모두 정책적인 노력을 가속화하여야 할 것이다.

영어초록

This paper investigates perceptions of health, sport and leisure time in Gangwon Province of Korea where its capital city Chuncheon is hosting the 11th World Leisure Congress and the World Leisure Games. The findings indicate that the people of Gangwon-do live in communities that are vibrant, healthy and sport orientated. They use their leisure time meaningfully in constructive activities. Considering that leisure and sport are kinds of merit goods that provide happiness and welfare for many people, both the central government and local government should accelerate their policy-effort to establish better leisure facilities and programs in this area with comparative advantage in leisure and sport.
