Imagine a man has been kidnapped and taken aboard a ship. His captors, the captain of the ship, tells him that he can either join the crew or he can leave whenever he wants. Is this any different than the agrument that legitimate state authority is based on consent?

INTRO
What is consent in the matter of the state authority? Could social contract be compared with the situation that a man has been kidnapped and taken aboard a ship, and then the captain of the ship says “you can join us or can leave here whenever you want”? On the surface, the relationship between the authority of the state and the person who must obey the rule may seem like the above situation, because we need to perform obligation without our agreement and can not choose where we will be born in.
However, this is not right comprehension.
