Three things are important in the development of the limb: the polarity, the difference between hands and feet, and the growth of your limbs. why vertebrate limb is a complex organ? because it should have the 3D coordinate positional information to construct a limb. It can be explained by pattern formation which is the set of processes by which embryonic cells form ordered spatial arrangements of differentiated tissues. These regions are initially cartilaginous but finally, most of the cartilage is replaced by bone.
Key signaling of each of the three limb axes
1. proximal distal axis: Fgf signaling
2. anterior posterior axis: Shh signaling
3. dorsal-ventral axis: Wnt signaling

the limb field is the area capable of forming a limb. If remove free limb then a limb will still form but would not be normal. But If extirpated tissue all of them (inside the ring), no limb will develop
