적절한 영양은 아동의 정상적인 성장과 발달에 있어서 필수적이며 건강을 회복하고 유지하는 데 있어서 중요한 역할을 한다. 영양은 아동, 그리고 아동이 환경과의 상호작용을 하는데 영향을 미친다. 배고파서 보채는 영아가 적극적으로 수유하고 잠에 드는 것처럼 아동의 해동에 있어서 영양의 효과는 즉각적이거나 극적일 수 있다. 또는 아동기의 콜레스테롤 수준과 성인 관상동맥 질환과의 관련성과 같이 영양은 장기간의 효과를 초래할 수도 있다. 그리고 영양에 관한 지식은 음식과 식사에 있어서 사회, 경제, 문화, 정신적인 이해를 요구한다. 식사 양상은 영양소만이 아닌 사회적 관련성을 가지고 있다(Burns, 2012).
이처럼, 아동기의 영양이 중요함에 따라 그 시기에 식사 행동의 긍정적 패턴이 얼마나 중요한지를 학습하고자 한다. 이를 위해 이번 과제에서 제시된 “How to Improve Eating Behavior during Early Childhood” 기사를 읽은 후 다음의 문제에 대한 답을 완성한다. 또한, 해당 내용과 관련하여 더욱 깊은 고찰을 위해 관련된 서적을 읽은 후 중요하다고 생각하는 부분을 덧붙인 바는 다음과 같다.
